Dear Futureme,
this is an exercise for the 'Global thinking project' about my ideal day in 2010, I hope it will become reality!
Dear Diary, 23 January 2020
Today I came back from Haiti, Ive written a piece for the national paper about the earthquake which happened ten years back. Normally I write and photograph for the travel section of the paper, but theyve chosen me this time to go to Haiti. It was very inspiring to see how the people in Haiti managed to get their lives back on track in such a short time. Ive talked with someone of my own age who experienced the earthquake by herself. She was very religious and told me about the hope God brought in the hard time after the disaster. I think its interesting to see how they got hope from such a mysterious thing. When I meet those people I wish that I was religious myself.
Ive been there for 5 days. It wasnt a very long travel; with the intergalactic train Ive travelled in 20 minutes to Haiti, in 2010 was that inconceivable! On my way back I took the train to Australia to get a cup of coffee by my friend Florinde. I hadnt seen her in 2 weeks so we had a lot to talk about. We travelled together to the Netherlands, where she was going to perform with her good friend Eliane.
Because of the time difference between Haiti and Amsterdam I saw the sunrise threw my windows in my apartment in Amsterdam. I got filled with a nostalgic feeling and started to listen to music I listened 10 years a go and started watching pictures of me and my friends from the past 10 years. I saw pictures of myself everywhere in the world. Its funny to see how everything is changed in the last 10 years. I forgot time when my friend Lilly called at 9 o clock to eat breakfast together. Its a good thing that this tradition lasts for such a long time. We made breakfast and we laughed together. She told me about a workshop she want to do with me. Tomorrow were going to try every religion for 20 minutes. Its not that Im looking for spirituality, but its nice to know about the religions and the principles of each. This interest in religions I got from a school project about global thinking.
After breakfast Lilly had to bring her twin boys to a soccer match so I went to Jordi to congratulate him with winning the Nobel Price in physics. He invented a machine which makes water out of sand. I stopped understanding it before he even explained it.
He showed me his newest invention, a 7D mobile phone. He wasnt sure if this invention will do it good on the mobile phone market because of his newest feature; you can smell the person you call, sometimes thats nice, but if you call your mother early in the morning it isnt a nice wake up call.
After my visit to Jordi I took my old bicycle and drove through the city to buy some groceries in the only old-fashioned, real life grocery store in the whole city. Since the invention of the Flars, flying cars, and the ban of old, polluting cars in whole Amsterdam has the city changed to one great park. All the streets are replaced by grass with bicycle-only paths and pavements. I dont like to order my food on the internet, I want to feel them and besides of that, its nice to cycle through my hometown. I bought some genetic manipulated grapes with a diameter of 10 centimeters and a smiley made up. They tasted delicious, but my belly was full after a lunch of 2 grapes.
After lunch I did a powernap in my massive bed which looks out over the greenest city in the world. I dreamt about ten years back, about the global warming. When I was at high school the people were talking about the worst scenarios possible, but all the problems are over now. The major changes president Obama applied in his 2nd reign were life saving. Ten years back we couldnt imagine that those problems would have been solved in such a short time.
I woke up because my friends were standing in front of my door. I invited them to have a drink before we were going out. We talked about life, we listened to music and we dreamed in my dream room. When you enter a dream room you can experience what ever you want; what ever you dream. It has been a while since we were all together having fun.
After that we went to a fancy Italian restaurant owned by our friend Wouter. We ate a 10 feet long pizza. It looked like Wouter ate the past 10 years everyday a pizza like that. He looked like a pig with curls on his head, but he cooked like a 5 star cook.
After dinner we went to an opening of an exhibition by my old friends Jade and Emilie. Emilie just finished the Rietveld academy and got the royal award for painting from king Willem-Alexander and Jade has won the world press photo competition 2 times.
It was very busy, there was a lot of press. I took pictures for the culture part of next days paper and when I got home Ive written a good review about it. At the party I met a beautiful girl and she gave me her number so we could go on a date sometime, she seemed really nice to me. I cant wait to see her again.
After the opening we went to the cd presentation of Eliane her newest album in the concert hall Paradiso. She had invited some guest performers like Daan who played a song on the guitar and Florinde who played on the piano. Fortunately Florinde didnt sing. We danced and laughed like we were young dogs the whole night long, like we were teenagers again. We felt like we were the king of our worlds.
