Dear FutureMe,
It's been a rough month. Rough couple of years, actually.
We now have a fucked up president, Bolsonaro. I hate the whole Executive branch. I have been campaining against them ever since before the election, in 2018. I lost. We all did.
2019 was a his first year in the chair, and we already lost several human rights. It seemed like their goal was to eliminate the poor. Kill them. The country is devided.
Lula was released from jail late 2019, and as of yet haven't done anything. Peopole are applauding the crazy milicia family.
I have been wasting (or dedicating?) so much of my time watching videos, reading and posting stuff online to try and educate people about this fuckedup place we've put ourselves. No success so far. Even my partner doesn't agree with me.
Early 2020. 21, March, saturday. Today I write this email so I can recollect my memories ant feelings later. We are in a global crisis. Covid-19 is a flu-like virus that so far has killed 3500 in China, over 4000 in Italy, 20 in Brazil. I have been watching a lot and researching a lot. Átila Iamarino has been a great resource.
SANEAGO has halved its work force. Now operations are day on/day off. I didn't agree to that. I tried to resist, lead by example. No success. People need water and waste management.
I am FUCKING SCARED TO DEATH that my dad gets infected. He doesn't seem to comply with the necessary precautions. My brother has brought his brother in-law to my dad's house. They took the plane in the south, landed in Brasília and went there. Brasilia is one of the epicenters of this disease. Thanks, Bolsonaro.
It seems Paulo Guedes is utterly concerned to save the most rich companies, but not the people.
Came as a surprise, but Ronaldo Caiado, Goiás Governor, seems more concerned about Public Health... Early this week he already decreeted the shutdown. He then locked the State. I am hopeful about this. I want to believe Goiás will survive this disease better than Italy and other states. Shit seems awful at Brasília and São Paulo.
We now have 1000 cases, but Albert Einstein's Hospital Director believes for each confirmed case, there is 15 we don't know about. Seems accurate. Anápolis only has 2 confirmed cases, and Goiás, about 20.
I am a bit sick. I was recovering from the flu, and Nikole had a urinary infection last week. We went to the hospital one night and the next morning. I think I got sick there. She didn't... And she is well now.
I researched, and vaccine and medications aren't the answear in the near future. At least 1 year for vaccines, and medications don't seem promising. They never are, right? After all, we are talking about a virus.
I had an idea after listening the 20/03 live from Átila: What if we used blood from those who were convalescing in the patients, as a form of "vaccination"? Then I came accross the news from Arturo Casadevall, from Johns Hopkins School, who thinks the same! He said it was used in the Spanish Flu, and that it is fairly simple, and doesnt even need research. It simply works.
That idea gave me a little peace of mind. My dad and I have the same blood type. I will now try not to contaminate people, but I won't try as hard not to contaminate myself, because then I can give blood to my dad and he'll be okay. It's fairly low risk for me, it seems. As it is for my mom, wife, brother and his family.
I have no news from my grandfather and grandmother, and my mom doesn't seem to worried. I told her to suggest them "go to the farm and live there for a few months". She didn't think it was worth it. We'll see what happens.
I really hope no one I know dies from this.
