Dear Mata,
Do you remember that three and a half years ago you came upon a website that would let you write a message to yourself in the future? Well, here's that message.
So... How's life? If you've not got your PhD yet then what the hell have you been playing at?
Are you still making a living from animation? I'd really like to know what you're doing now but I guess I'll just have to wait and see.
The things you must have learnt... I wonder what your friends are doing, who they are now... I hope George W Bush isn't still in power!
If you're still working as hard then as you are now then maybe it's time you took a break, go on holiday somewhere nice. You've been working hard for years and you really owe it to yourself to get away for a while. I wonder how many days you have consciously taken to relax since I wrote this to you.
So here I am. Sitting in a bedsit in Winchester, wondering what happens next. It's strange to think that the person who receives this email will know what I'm going to do. I've got what I think will be a very important phone call to make this afternoon to that cable TV network that wants me to work for them... Maybe this will be the day my life changes. But I don't know that yet.
Do you remember that dream you had about your grandfather and the poem he wrote for you? In case you've lost it, here it is again:
As far as I can see it,
the world has many changes.
Were I a younger man
I would be with you on the long road.
Do you remember me? The hopes I had?
You turn thirty today. Happy birthday, welcome to my future.
I hope you're happy and well, for my sake! Remember to tell everyone you love how much you care because you never know when this ride will end.
Of course, you might not be alive anymore, so if this is being read by anyone else, my apologies if this has upset you!
Love,
Mata
