Dear FutureMe,
Happy Birthday! You're 60 today, and if you are anything like 49 year-old Me, you are absolutely amazed at how quickly the last tens years flew by.
I have no real complaints: I've done interesting things in my life, I have a wonderful family, many great friends, and a job that I really like. I'm not paid like a CEO, but we're comfortable--and I wouldn't want the CEO's job!
It just that my life has tended to zip by too damn fast.
I hope that you took some risks in the last ten years: Design and build a house, travel more, apply for that design patent that you've always wanted to do.
I wanted you to do more art--did you? I hope so. Are you now eclipsed by your famous artist wife? Chis is a great painter and I hope she stuck with it and got her work into a gallery. Give her a kiss for me, okay?
Also, I hope that you've devoted more of your time to helping others who are less fortunate than you. I get a true sense of accomplish from this... I hope you still do too.
You daughters are now 23 and 21. Yikes! I hope you survived the past ten years of high school, college and dating without losing all your hair. Have they turned out to be lovely young women? I'm sure they have. Tell them that I knew they would, even though they can both be a little surly these days. :)
Hey, send a note to 70YO FutureMe! What do you suppose he's up to?
Take care,
PastMe
