I hope this works.
When I get this letter, I'll be what - 26? It seems a long way away. I wonder if I'm in a relationship? Oh I hope this letter doesn't come straight after I've been dumped, can you imagine how depressing that would be? I hope this letter comes at a really good time for me. I hope I have a good job, and great friends, and that I'm in some sort of long term relationship which means I won't be waiting till I'm 35 to have kids. That would suck. I'd quite like to get all that done when I'm quite young. I hope the family are well. I hope I still have this email address, actually, otherwise this will never come true.
If I'm married, I hope my husband (or wife, but I'm guessing at husband) isn't a dickhead. If I have kids, I hope they're healthy. And I hope that I've mastered the art of writing a letter to a future self without prefixing every sentence with "I hope..." I wonder what job I have? At this point in time, I don't have my AS results, and I still haven't written my personal statement - yes, I should get on with it, and I will, I promise. I want to do English Lit at university, and I want to work in television or advertising or something. I might end up doing something different - you'd know about that.
If you aren't happy with how life's turned out, then I'm sorry for messing it up. However if there's something you can change, then CHANGE IT! :)
Love, your seventeen year old self.
PS. I've attached a recent picture. I hope it doesn't make you cringe.
