Dear future me,
Here is a list of things to never forget:
1. The nervous and surreal feeling you felt while standing outside her door that first day. That was the start of the rest of your life. That was the game-changer. It didn’t feel real, but it was the most real thing you ever experienced. Don’t forget how you knew on that first day that this was something special. That this was the girl you wanted to spend the rest of your life with.
2. The smile you fell in love with. Times may be tough right now, or they may be great. But if you ever find yourself seeing that smile less, don’t let it slip away. Always remember the happiness you felt while falling in love. Remember the feelings of growth, remember the feeling of opening up and letting this girl and her breathtaking smile take over your soul. Remember what you fell in love with. Whether you see it or not, it’s still there. She’s the girl you fell in love with on July Twenty-Third of Two Thousand and Fifteen. Don’t ever lose her.
3. The moment in the jeep with your sister. When everything was going wrong. Your car was broken down, you had no money, you were going to be homeless at the end of the month. You were an hour and a half drive from your girlfriend, and you couldn’t facetime her because your wifi was out. Remember how everything was crashing down. And you were crying in the passenger seat of your sister’s car on the way to Wal-Mart. When you were talking about how you and Maddie were planning your future. How you felt hope for the first time. Don’t forget when you had mascara running down your face and a panic attack shook your body, when you said: “I have a positive outlook on life.” And you meant it. You kicked depression’s ass. Don’t go back to how you were. Don’t let depression back in. Things will always get better.
