Hello baby
You wrote this letter on the day you moved out of your second house in Singapore.
The house that you moved into in the course of two days, in the city that you moved in with gianormous dreams and hopes.
Things didn't work out like you thought they would here but you met a lot of different people, an amazinger than amazing boss and you had an amazing experience never felt before of living with someone you loved so deeply - the hobson's choice of your life.
And just for that shortlived experience, it was worth it. Just for that moment at the airport when you walked out with all your luggage and you saw him on the other side walking towards you, looking at him and him at you and each knowing that this is the moment from which you are going to be spending the rest of life together. Just that moment was worth everything else in your life.
And yes finally, it didn't turn out to be the rest of life. And it really turned out to be just a few good months followed by some miserable months but in this cynical, un-empathetic, blasé, cold life you have always lived, just those few months were worth the whole of it.
And you took that hole and walked away today because the pain of watching that hole in you get bigger as you watched him everyday was too much.
As for the rest of life, now is the first time life is unwritten, there is no job, no career, no home, no goal really and the you today would have written the next five years of her own volition, taking each day as it came to you / her.
I wanted to put down something that you should have accomplished by the date you receive this letter but I have a feeling itll be a scary, sorrowful affair to look at it and measure up and fall short. Still I will refrain from just one metric which is that you have a daughter - doesn't matter if its with someone or on your own - and that daughter will be your family and you will bring her up and educate and teach her all the lessons you learnt in life you have been noting for her all these years and she will love you and you both will have each other. and be candid and frank and best friends and meet people and have a happy life.
That's all you need anymore really.
Love,
Oops Mulligan
