A letter from September 5th, 2016

Dear FutureMe, At this point in your life, I don't know where you are going to be. Hopefully you are graduated by now and have a job, but if not, stick in there. It will be worth it in the end. I really wish I could see into the future and see how my life works out. Right now I need something positive to look forward to. The thing I am most curious about right now is your living arrangements. Right now, I am just not sure where I will be living in the future. Even though gay marriage is legal now, I don't see myself getting married, but I guess that could change. Right now, the main two options I see are living alone with dogs, or becoming a Catholic sister. (that never gets easier to type) As strange as it sounds, becoming a sister is sounding more and more appealing to me. We'll just have to see where that thought ends up. :) I am not really sure what else I want to tell you, so I think I will just talk about current events for a while. This is an election year and will be the first election I am able to vote in. The candidates for President are Hillary Clinton and Donald Trump. It is amazing and scary that these are the two candidates. Donald Trump is really scary. If he gets elected, we very well may be looking at the end of the US as we know it. On the other hand you have HIllary Clinton who, although won't be as bad as Donald Trump, will still not be a great President. Honestly, a very sad election cycle. I am very curious to see how the country turns out in a couple of years (also kind of scared). Transgender and gay rights are big right now. I am cautiously optimistic that we are making progress and that some day soon, everyone will truly be equal( even though I know this is really not possible). I really don't know what else to say so I am going to end with some words of advice. Remember not to carry the weight of the world on your back. There are somethings you can not fix and you have to let those things go. Be the best you can be at whatever it is that you choose to do. Push your boundaries, thats how we grow. That's what I am working on right now. Remember that every student has a story and you don't always know it. Be a kind caring teacher that the kids respect and trust. Trust is key. Do not become that grumpy mean teacher that no one likes to see. Always SMILE and enjoy life. You only get one of them. :) Have a great future! Love, Past you
