Dear FutureMe,
This is what a great teacher should be!
1. They should be skilled-- How are you going to teach to the future is you're not skilled??? Work hard to master your field and your skill so that you can be confident and make sure that you are teaching the correct things to your students.
2. A teacher should be empathetic! For students-- they're always seeking someone to make a connection with.Be empathetic so that your students will have genuine trust with you and in the long run, create a better learning space for both you and them.
3. Be passionate-- despite the pay, being a teacher is probably the most important and respectable profession in all civilizations around the world. How would we continue to gain knowledge to improve the world without our teachers?
Some of the misconceptions about being a teacher that I have are:
1. They're overworked
2. Theyre Underpaid
3. May not always be the happiest with their professions.
As someone who will be working with undeserved schools some of the preconceptions that I have are
1. May not have access to many opportunities that affluent students do.
2. Are ALL passionate about learning-- just have to find a way to make them ALL engaged.
3. My students can build a personal connection and learn required material at the same time.
Some of the challenges that worry me about being a teacher are:
1. Not having an engaging classroom. All the successful teachers that I've had have had an engaging classroom. What if I can't? This challenge worries me a lot.
2. Making sure I understand the needs of students or being able to understand what it is that they don't understand.
3. Not being able to build that personal connection I feel is vital in a student teacher relationship.
