Dear FutureMe,
It's a weird time right now. We’re in the second week of self-quarantine (voluntary, at the moment) to help prevent the spread of COVID-19. My roommates and I were talking about where the name came from and whether or not the "19" at the end was for the year 2019 that it showed up or some other reason. I haven't bothered to look it up yet.
I had a moment just a few minutes ago, right before Alexis sent me this link, where I looked around at the space I've curated in my studio and thought to myself - I really like this. This room and this space is a reflection of me, and each part of it I look around at is pleasant and meaningful to me and it isn't perfect but neither am I. And I liked that feeling. It's been a process for me to work up to deliberately creating living spaces that resonate with myself. Actually scratch that, its been a process for me to deliberately do anything with a living space ever. For so long each space was temporary, transient and the decor matched that (or lack thereof). I realized this a few years ago and have been trying hard to change that, to look at the space I'm in and work to put a tangible handprint on it.
I feel like I've done that here, better than I have anywhere else so far. I'm sure I'll continue to evolve the skill and get better at it as I go, but for now that reflection was a milestone for myself and I loved it.
Take care and remember you are the best you there is. Don't beat yourself up about conventional benchmarks you haven't met or don't conform to because you aren't a person that conforms and thats what makes you special. That's what makes you unique and that, more likely than anything else, is what has put you where you are today. As Tim Swart told you a few years ago, you are a shining star in a sea of bullshit. You are a star and you are loved and you mean something to people. Hold onto that and never let it go.
I love you,
Self
